Farmers in Kaduna State have raised serious concerns that some former bandits, who had previously surrendered and been involved in peace efforts, are now terrorizing communities again and stealing livestock. The reports, shared by Sahara Reporters, involve farmers from Chikun and Igabi Local Government Areas. The farmers are calling on authorities to investigate and put an end to what they describe as a dangerous resurgence of criminal activities by these “repentant bandits” near the Kaduna Airport area.
A spokesperson for the farmers explained via WhatsApp that the suspected bandits are responsible for cattle rustling in Kadi village and other settlements along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road. In just one week, the farmers lost a total of 97 cattle, including 47 belonging to Alhaji Abdullahi Mubari, 32 belonging to Bawa Abubakar, 8 belonging to Dankawu Malam Bube, and 10 belonging to Abdullahi Jafaru.
The farmers warned that their livelihoods are being destroyed and urged the government to act quickly to stop these attacks. They criticized the authorities, saying that despite being part of the “Kaduna Peace Model,” these so-called repentant bandits continue to kidnap, kill, and rustle cattle with impunity, while little is done to stop them.
The Kaduna Peace Model, introduced by Governor Uba Sani in 2023, aims to foster peace through inclusive governance, grassroots engagement, and rural development, offering an alternative to solely military solutions. Kaduna State has long struggled with insecurity, including banditry, kidnappings, farmer–herder clashes, and communal violence, making it one of Nigeria’s most volatile regions.
Governor Sani recently outlined the peace strategy during a presentation at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Lagos on November 11, 2025. He described it as a practical, experience-based approach aimed at stabilizing the state and achieving lasting peace.
