Ibadan, Oyo State — On November 24, 2025, the governors of Nigeria’s six South West states gathered in Ibadan for an urgent security summit. The meeting was held at the Governor’s Office, Agodi, and brought together leaders from Oyo, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti states. The purpose was to discuss how to improve security across the region amid rising criminal activities.
The governors discussed increasing cases of armed robbery, kidnapping, cult-related violence, and other crimes affecting communities in the South West. They focused on ways to make the Amotekun security outfit more effective, improve intelligence sharing, and ensure quick and coordinated responses to threats.
During the meeting, they emphasized the importance of working together across state borders and with federal security agencies to combat criminal networks. The leaders agreed that proactive measures, community involvement, and better planning are essential to keep citizens safe, especially vulnerable groups like students, traders, and rural residents.
The host governor assured residents that the meeting was not just a formal gathering but would lead to concrete actions. The governors plan to review past operations, address resource shortages, and plan future security measures to restore safety and peace in the region.
As these new efforts begin to take effect, the governors urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement, stay alert, and support security initiatives. The meeting highlighted the region’s commitment to taking strong, united action against security threats and building a safer South West for all.
