Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army have intercepted a major consignment of Cannabis Sativa in Kogi State, reinforcing ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and curb the rise of banditry linked to illicit substances.
The operation took place on 24 November 2025 at the Agbede Response Area, where soldiers stopped a Toyota Camry (registration DKA 158AU) driven by Mr. Johnson Ayo. Suspicion was raised when the vehicle was found displaying a branded police hat and belt on its dashboard.
A thorough search of the car uncovered 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa totaling 108.8 kilograms, reportedly being transported from Ekiti State to Obajana. Authorities noted that large-scale drug trafficking of this nature finances criminal networks and fuels violent activities, including banditry, across the state and surrounding regions.
The suspect and the seized drugs have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi State Command, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national efforts to eliminate drug trafficking, curb factors enabling banditry, enhance public safety, and maintain security for all citizens.
The operation highlights the growing challenge of interstate drug trafficking in Nigeria and the critical role of the military in disrupting networks that threaten public safety.
