Osun State has projected itself as a national model for climate innovation and subnational climate action at the COP30 global climate conference held in São Paulo, Brazil. Represented by the Director-General and Special Envoy on Climate Change and Renewable Energy, Professor Chinwe Obuaku-Igwe, Governor Ademola Adeleke used the global platform to highlight Osun’s ambitious, people-centered climate policies and its push for international partnerships that translate into real development at home.

Speaking at the well-attended Osun State side event, themed “From Waste to Wheels and Watts: Subnational Innovation in Recycling, E-Mobility & Solar,” Prof. Obuaku-Igwe underscored the state’s progress in renewable energy deployment, recycling enterprises, and the emergence of a new Green Livelihoods workforce. She described Osun’s programmes as “groundbreaking and far-reaching,” asserting that the government is committed to implementing its climate agenda without compromise.

She stressed that COP30 represents a turning point for subnationals, saying the goal is no longer ceremonial participation, but partnerships that produce measurable outcomes. “Climate leadership must translate into jobs, improved systems, stronger institutions, and resilience for the people we serve. Osun State is not here to simply attend COP30. We are here to deliver outcomes that follow us back home,” she said.

The Special Envoy highlighted three core pillars of Osun’s climate strategy: deepening subnational–international partnerships, unlocking climate finance and opportunities under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, and scaling homegrown innovations with global potential. She called on development partners to support Osun’s expanding recycling initiatives, solar adoption drive, and e-mobility programmes.

A documentary showcasing real stories of climate transformation across Osun—featuring recycling success stories, solar solutions, and e-mobility projects—was also screened, reinforcing the state’s growing reputation as a climate action leader.

Governor Adeleke, who has received several national and international recognitions for his administration’s climate reforms, was praised for instituting a governance culture that prioritizes community engagement, accountability, and problem-solving in climate policy implementation.

The statement was signed by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to the governor.
