In a landmark initiative, the Zamfara State Zakat and Endowment Board has facilitated the marriage of 200 female orphans, providing each bride with starter household items and a ₦200,000 dowry to support their new lives. The ceremony, held in Gusau, the state capital, marked the final phase of the Board’s 2025 programmes, which also included business grants, debt settlements, poultry training graduations, and computer literacy class completions.
Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Habib Balarabe Mohammed Zawiyya, said the Board will continue to follow up with the couples to ensure they sustain peaceful and responsible homes. He expressed joy that some beneficiaries from last year’s mass wedding have already started families, describing this as “highly encouraging.”
The First Lady of Zamfara State commended the leadership of the Board for their transparency and dedication, emphasizing that the successes recorded reflect their commitment. She congratulated the newlyweds and prayed for peaceful and loving homes.
The event saw the Zakat Board Chairman, Sheikh Umar Kanoma, act as guardian for the grooms, while the Emir of Anka served as guardian for the brides. Imam Isa Sherehu officiated the marriage rites and offered prayers for the couples. All couples underwent comprehensive medical screenings, with 24 individuals receiving immediate treatment for identified health issues.
Traditional leaders, Islamic scholars, families, and well-wishers attended the ceremony, which symbolises a major step toward empowering female orphans in Zamfara State, providing them with dignity, support, and a hopeful start to married life.
