Professor Rahmon Tella has been officially sworn in as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Oyo State in a ceremony held on 25th November 2024. The event was presided over by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, highlighting the commission’s ongoing commitment to electoral excellence.
Chairman Amupitan, who administered the oath, emphasized the solemnity of the occasion and the responsibility entrusted to the REC. He stressed that INEC’s mission goes beyond regulatory duties, framing it as a “moral and legal duty” to the Nigerian people.
Speaking directly to Professor Tella, the Chairman said: “An occasion of an oath-taking is a solemn occasion. It is an occasion that calls to duty.” He further warned: “I admonish you that the integrity of our election is not negotiable. You must uphold the highest standard of professionalism and integrity in every action you take… Any compromise on our values or our procedures shall not be tolerated.”
Chairman Amupitan also urged the new REC to serve as “a beacon of hope and democratic values”, ensuring that every voter in Oyo State can have unshakable confidence that their vote counts.
In his response, Professor Tella expressed appreciation for the Chairman’s guidance, noting: “The honorable chairman’s remarks are very much being with value and experience.” He pledged to align his work with INEC’s vision, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in the state’s electoral processes.
The swearing-in of Professor Tella underscores INEC’s focus on leadership that reinforces transparency, voter confidence, and the credibility of elections in Oyo State.
