A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has issued a fierce critique of the current security situation in the country, declaring that Nigeria is “running on blood and tears” as citizens continue to face escalating violence across multiple regions.

Speaking during a heated session at the National Assembly, Doguwa said the level of insecurity had reached an intolerable point where farmers can no longer access their farmlands, traders live in fear of going to markets, and worshippers are unsafe in churches and mosques.

In a passionate outburst, the lawmaker faulted the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for failing to take decisive and urgent action to halt the killings, kidnappings, and widespread unrest paralysing many communities.

> “Farmers cannot go to farm. Traders cannot go to the markets. Worshippers can’t go to the church or the mosque. The country is running on blood and tears,” Doguwa exclaimed.

Expressing frustration with what he described as a lack of sufficient political will, the lawmaker suggested that the National Assembly should consider suspending its activities until the President presents a clear and effective plan to secure the country.

> “If Tinubu’s government cannot do the right thing, then we need to shut down the National Assembly until he does,” he declared, accusing the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), of failing to meet its responsibilities to the Nigerian people.

His comments sparked murmurs across the chamber and drew mixed reactions from colleagues, with some supporting his call for drastic measures and others urging a more coordinated legislative approach.

Doguwa’s remarks reflect growing public anxiety over the surge in violent attacks, particularly mass abductions, banditry, and rural insecurity that have disrupted social life and economic activities nationwide.

The lawmaker said he would continue to demand accountability until tangible improvements are felt by ordinary Nigerians who, according to him, “have suffered enough.”
