The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has dismissed widespread reports claiming that schools in Abuja were instructed to close early, describing the information as false and misleading. The administration also announced the suspension of the Education Secretary over the controversy.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, said the administration had not issued any directive for early closure “at any level of the administration.”
Olayinka stressed that the academic calendar remains unchanged, urging parents, students, teachers and school administrators to disregard what he called an unnecessary panic created by the rumour.
The clarification comes amid rising public concern over the alleged directive, which circulated widely on social media earlier in the day. By suspending the Education Secretary, the FCTA signaled a move to restore order and prevent misinformation from disrupting academic activities.
Olayinka appealed to the public to rely on verified information from official channels, insisting that schools across the FCT will continue to operate as scheduled.
With this firm rebuttal, the administration says learning will continue without interruption, and investigations into the source of the misleading announcement are expected to follow.
