The Ekiti State Government has taken another major step toward advancing women’s economic independence with the empowerment of 37 beneficiaries of its Second Chance Education Programme. The beneficiaries—trained fashion designers and hairdressers—received start-up tools and financial support under the World Bank–assisted Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE).

The initiative targets young women who returned to education through the Second Chance scheme, equipping them with practical skills to earn a sustainable income. With the latest empowerment round, the state government says it is deepening its investment in gender inclusion and reducing vulnerability among adolescent girls and young women.

Officials noted that the support was designed not only to help beneficiaries set up functional businesses but also to strengthen their long-term self-reliance and economic resilience. The AGILE project, already active across Ekiti, continues to promote access to education, vocational training, and livelihood opportunities for girls who would otherwise be excluded.

By providing both skills and start-up capital, the state government says it is building a pipeline of financially empowered women capable of contributing to household welfare, community development, and the broader state economy.

The move reflects Ekiti’s ongoing commitment to improving outcomes for women and girls through education, empowerment, and targeted social interventions.
