The Anambra State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of Hon. Bernard Udemezue, the lawmaker representing Ayamelum Constituency, for another three months without pay. The extension comes after he failed to follow the House’s rules and continued to behave in ways deemed unacceptable for a lawmaker.

The decision was made during the House’s Tuesday plenary session, based on recommendations from the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics, and Privileges. The committee’s report indicated that Hon. Udemezue did not comply with previous instructions to publicly apologize to the Speaker and other members of the Assembly, and to do so within five days starting from November 26, 2025. He was also told to stay away from the Assembly complex during his initial suspension.

However, instead of following these directives, Hon. Udemezue did not issue any apology or show remorse. Instead, he continued to post derogatory comments about the Assembly on his Facebook page, violating the resolution made in August this year. It was also revealed that he appeared in the Assembly chamber on November 25, allegedly trying to disrupt proceedings, despite being suspended.

As a result, the House ordered that Hon. Udemezue remain suspended for another three months and be barred from entering the Assembly premises during this period. The House emphasized its commitment to maintaining discipline, proper conduct, and respect for parliamentary rules within the legislature.
