The Lagos State Government has intensified its push for inclusive governance through the Mother and Infant Child Development Programme (MICHD), taking the initiative to Orile-Agege in a renewed effort to connect directly with pregnant women and strengthen grassroots engagement.
The event, held at Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu Primary Health Centre under Health District I, brought together state officials, local leaders and healthcare workers for a community-focused session centered on maternal health and civic involvement.
Permanent Secretary of the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Engr. Sholabomi Shasore, described MICHD as more than a welfare outreach, but a strategic tool for deepening communication between government and residents. She stressed that pregnant women remain one of society’s most delicate groups and must be consistently supported through programmes that reflect genuine citizen engagement.
According to Shasore, true engagement goes beyond town hall meetings; it includes initiatives that directly improve the well-being of families and ensure no mother or child is neglected in the state’s development plan.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of Health District I, Dr. Sola Pitan, commended the state government’s continued investment in health infrastructure and skilled personnel. He encouraged pregnant women to embrace public health facilities for antenatal care and safe delivery, noting that Lagos is committed to delivering the dividends of democracy through quality healthcare access.
The Chairman of Orile-Agege LCDA, Hon. Akinola Abiodun Idowu, praised the state government’s consistency in bringing impactful programmes to local communities. He noted that interventions like MICHD help both state and local governments assess their progress and plan future improvements that benefit residents.
A major highlight of the programme was the State Engagement Session, where pregnant women openly interacted with government officials—sharing concerns, learning about ongoing initiatives and voicing their needs in a participatory setting.
The event was attended by officials from Orile-Agege LCDA, healthcare personnel from various public health centres under Health District I, and staff of the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement.
