The trial of Fred Ajudua, who is accused of multiple cases of fraud, was halted on Friday, November 28, 2025, because he was not in court. Ajudua is accused of fraudulently obtaining over $1 million from a man named Abu Zalaf.
During the court session in Ikeja, Lagos, Ajudua’s lawyer, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), told the judge that Ajudua, who is in custody, was not brought to court by the Nigeria Correctional Service. The court then received a letter from the Correctional Service explaining Ajudua’s absence.
The prosecutor, S. K. Atteh, said he did not see the letter until it was read in court. Ajudua’s lawyer also pointed out that the Correctional Service did not say when Ajudua would be brought to court.
Because of this, the lawyer asked for a new trial date to be set next year. The judge, Justice M. A. Dada, agreed and scheduled the next hearing for January 19, 2026.
This case has been ongoing since 2005, but it has faced many delays, mainly because of legal tactics used by Ajudua to slow down the process.
