The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has been honoured with the Award of Excellence in Capacity Building and Staff Welfare by the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), marking another significant recognition of her transformational leadership in the nation’s identity management sector.

Presented by the National Executive Council of ASCSN, the award underscores the DG’s remarkable efforts in repositioning NIMC through a leadership style defined by openness, staff-centered reforms, and a commitment to institutional growth. Her recognition comes shortly after she received an Innovation Service Delivery Award from the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE), reflecting the growing national and sectoral acknowledgment of her reforms and achievements.

Since assuming office, Engr. Coker-Odusote has implemented a bold, inclusive, and reform-driven 5-Point Agenda that places staff welfare and capacity development at its core. Her administration has overseen the promotion of over 3,000 staff members and the implementation of a 25 to 30 percent salary upgrade approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. She has also championed comprehensive training programmes, executive retreats, and management workshops aimed at enhancing professionalism and strengthening the agency’s operational capacity.

In line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, she has spearheaded the distribution of more than 2,500 computer systems to boost the efficiency of NIN enrolment nationwide. Key departments within the commission have been equipped with upgraded workstations and digital tools, helping to align NIMC’s operations with global best practices. Additional welfare-focused initiatives—such as the introduction of free staff bus services, improved car park facilities, and facilitated access to national food palliatives—have improved organisational cohesion and boosted staff morale.

ASCSN, in describing the award, praised the DG for her sincerity, sensitivity to the needs of workers, and her policies that have elevated productivity and strengthened social dialogue within the commission. The union highlighted that her leadership has set a new benchmark for engagement between management and labour unions in the public sector, largely due to her open-door policy and proactive approach to conflict resolution.

This latest recognition, stakeholders say, not only affirms her achievements but also reinforces her commitment to driving excellence in public service delivery and ensuring that NIMC remains a cornerstone of Nigeria’s digital identity infrastructure.
