In a shocking turn of events that has sent ripples across Anambra State and the wider business community, the decomposing bodies of two Cameroonian women, abducted in Onitsha earlier this month, have been recovered by the state police. The victims, Mrs. Bognou Alice and her niece, Miss Sandra, were found on November 28, 2025, along the banks of the Omambala River, following a painstaking search operation involving police operatives, divers, and local volunteers. Their remains have been transferred to a mortuary for forensic examination, as authorities piece together the harrowing circumstances of their abduction and eventual death.

The women, reportedly on a business trip to purchase goods, were kidnapped on November 10, a journey that tragically ended in violence. Nigerian police say the kidnappers demanded and received a ransom of N2.9 million from the family, but despite the payment, the victims were never released.

Two men, Nonso Augustine Akpeh, 37, and Kingsley Akpeh, 44, have been apprehended in connection with the crime. Weapons including a pump-action gun and a locally made double-barrel gun were recovered from them. During investigations, the suspects led police to a bush hideout in Anam Community, where the women had been held in captivity. In a dramatic turn during the operation, Kingsley Akpeh attempted to escape, was shot in the leg, and subsequently re-arrested.

Efforts are intensifying to locate the third woman abducted alongside the deceased, as well as other accomplices believed to be involved in the crime. Security agencies have vowed to leave no stone unturned in ensuring that all perpetrators face the full weight of the law.

The Anambra State Police Command, while confirming the grim discovery, emphasized its unwavering commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state. Authorities have urged residents and business travelers, especially foreign nationals, to exercise caution and report suspicious activities promptly.

The incident has highlighted the rising security challenges in southeastern Nigeria, particularly for foreign investors and traders. Local residents and business operators have expressed shock and concern over the brutal nature of the crime, calling for stronger security measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

As the investigation continues, the recovery of the bodies has reignited calls for more robust security infrastructure and proactive intelligence gathering to safeguard lives and property in the state.
