Ibadan, Oyo State — In a powerful show of commitment to women’s and children’s rights, Chief Mrs Titilola Adeleke, First Lady of Osun State, officially opened the FIDA Oyo State Week 2025 on Monday, December 1, 2025. The event, themed “Justice, Service & Progress; The Unwavering Commitment”, was organized by the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and drew legal professionals and advocates from across the region.
During the ceremony held at the Aare Afe Babalola Bar Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, Mrs Adeleke praised FIDA for its tireless work in promoting justice, particularly for women and children. She stressed the importance of an independent judiciary and the urgent need to protect vulnerable groups.
“Justice is not a luxury, it is a necessity,” Mrs Adeleke declared. She described justice as a “shield that protects the girl child from early marriage, the sword that cuts through the chains of domestic violence, and the voice that speaks for the widow denied her inheritance.”
The First Lady reaffirmed her dedication to supporting initiatives that enhance the rights, safety, and dignity of women and children. Her words highlighted her ongoing advocacy for women’s emancipation and her commitment to creating a society where justice is accessible to all.
FIDA leadership, including Mrs Olubukola Igbalajobi and Mrs Ademubowale Mercy, commended Mrs Adeleke for her consistent support, emphasizing that FIDA will continue to prioritize justice for women and children. Distinguished attendees included Honourable Justice Mrs Oluwaseun Ademola Salami, Mrs Yemisi Collins of the Oyo State Ministry of Justice, Mrs Gbadamosi R.V., President of the Court of Appeal, and other legal luminaries.
The event concluded with an award of appreciation to Mrs Adeleke, recognizing her unwavering commitment to advancing justice and humanitarian causes in Nigeria.
This ceremony marks another milestone in the First Lady’s ongoing efforts to champion women’s and children’s rights, underscoring the importance of collaboration between government and civil society in the pursuit of justice.
The First Lady’s unwavering commitment to justice, women’s rights, and child protection demonstrates that meaningful change requires both policy and advocacy. As FIDA Oyo State Week unfolds, it serves as a reminder that empowering women and children is essential for building a fairer, safer, and more equitable society.
