The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mazi Ejimofor Opara, has criticized prominent Biafra agitators, including Nnamdi Kanu, Ralph Uwazuruike, and Simon Ekpa, for failing to improve the economic and social conditions of the Igbo people.
In a statement, Ejimofor argued that since the time of late Biafra leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, successive leaders advocating for Biafra have not advanced any progressive agenda to benefit the Igbo community. According to him, their actions have resulted in destruction rather than development.
Ejimofor also addressed claims of marginalization, describing it as a social reality present in all societies. “Marginalization is a social fact; it exists even in the most egalitarian society, just like crime. It is commensal to human nature. There is no place you will go without unequal distribution of opportunities or life itself,” he said.
He further noted that the pursuit of Biafra has cost the Igbo people dearly, resulting in the loss of human lives and resources. Ejimofor described the Biafra agitation as an ongoing struggle that continues to pose challenges for the community rather than delivering meaningful progress.
The APGA official’s comments come amid ongoing debates about the socio-economic impact of separatist movements in southeastern Nigeria.
