Residents of Sabon Birni town in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State were thrown into panic late yesterday night after armed bandits launched yet another attack, abducting three people in the Jargaba area. The victims include two young women and one man.

According to residents, the attackers stormed the community under the cover of darkness, firing sporadically before whisking away their captives. Although security forces were said to have responded swiftly and made significant efforts to engage the criminals, the bandits still escaped with the victims.

The incident adds to the rising wave of insecurity plaguing Sabon-Birni LGA, a region that has faced repeated bandit incursions in recent months, forcing many locals to live in constant fear and uncertainty. Night-time attacks, in particular, have become increasingly common, leaving communities vulnerable and stretching security operatives across vast terrains.

Stone Reporters observed that this latest incident fits into a broader pattern of coordinated nighttime raids that have repeatedly exposed security gaps in Sabon-Birni LGA. Despite increased deployments, attackers often take advantage of the region’s difficult terrain, porous borders, and delayed intelligence flow to strike quickly and escape before reinforcements arrive.

Stone Reporters also noted that earlier assaults—including recent abductions in Marnona—highlight a persistent challenge: communities at the frontline of banditry remain underprotected, with limited surveillance and slow emergency response times. These recurring attacks suggest the need for intensified night patrols, improved early-warning systems, and stronger collaboration between residents and security agencies to counter fast-moving criminal elements.

Furthermore, Stone Reporters observed that without a strategic shift in counter-bandit operations—especially in border-facing villages—Sabon-Birni may continue to witness these cycles of abductions, forcing residents to rely heavily on self-alert networks rather than assured protection
