Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has urged citizens to rise above political differences in confronting the escalating threat of banditry, stressing that insecurity is a challenge that affects all communities regardless of party affiliation.

The governor delivered the message on Saturday night during a special prayer session held at the Government House, which drew 4,444 Qur’an memorizers (Huffaz) from across the state. Participants gathered to recite the Holy Qur’an and offer prayers for enduring peace in Kano following a series of attacks by armed bandit groups.

The event attracted prominent figures, including the 16th Fulani Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, senior government officials, religious leaders, and community stakeholders. Governor Yusuf emphasised that insecurity is a shared concern and called on all Nigerians to unite in addressing the menace.

“Insecurity does not know politics or party affiliations. This is why everyone, regardless of their leanings, must join hands to fight the monster of banditry. We want to see everybody working together to free Kano,” the governor said.

He further highlighted the state government’s continuous engagement with security agencies to enhance protection measures for residents and to respond effectively to emerging threats. Governor Yusuf described the mass Qur’an recitation as a critical spiritual intervention, noting that such initiatives complement government efforts in tackling insecurity.

The prayer session featured participation from Islamic scholars and Qur’an reciters representing all 44 local government areas of Kano State. Attendees expressed solidarity in seeking divine intervention, emphasizing the collective responsibility of communities to contribute to peace and stability.

Governor Yusuf’s remarks underline the growing concern over insecurity in Northern Nigeria and the need for collaborative approaches that combine spiritual, community, and governmental efforts to mitigate the impact of armed banditry. The gathering also reinforced the role of faith-based initiatives in fostering resilience and social cohesion amid security challenges.

As the state continues to navigate complex security dynamics, officials remain committed to deploying resources, engaging stakeholders, and promoting unity to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
