Residents of Lamurde Local Government Area in Adamawa State are reeling from a series of violent attacks carried out by heavily armed Chobo-speaking militiamen from neighboring Gombe State, who reportedly collaborated with local armed groups to target Bachama settlements.
Eyewitnesses described the assailants as emerging from creeks along the Gombe border, moving swiftly from the western flank to overwhelm multiple villages. The attacks reportedly hit Tingno, Waduku, and at least two other communities, resulting in the destruction of homes, widespread looting, and numerous casualties. While official figures are not yet available, residents fear that dozens of people may have been killed during the raids.
The coordinated nature of the assaults has heightened anxiety across Lamurde, with many residents fleeing their homes to seek safety in nearby towns. Community leaders have called for urgent military intervention to restore security and prevent further loss of life.
Authorities in both Adamawa and Gombe states have yet to release a detailed statement, but locals are urging swift deployment of security forces and reinforcement of border patrols to curb the militia’s movements.
This incident underscores the persistent security challenges in northeastern Nigeria, where intercommunal tensions, armed militias, and cross-border incursions continue to threaten civilians, disrupt livelihoods, and exacerbate fears of further instability.
