A court in Seoul has handed down prison sentences to a woman in her 20s and a male accomplice in his 40s for blackmailing Tottenham Hotspur and South Korea captain, Son Heung-min.
According to court documents, the pair falsely claimed last year that the woman was pregnant with Son’s child. They threatened to make the allegation public unless he paid a substantial sum of money. Reports indicate that the footballer was coerced into paying 300 million won—approximately $200,000 or £153,000.
Authorities confirmed that the woman used the extorted funds to purchase luxury and designer items. Both defendants were found guilty of extortion and sentenced accordingly, with the woman receiving four years in prison.
This case highlights ongoing concerns around celebrity-targeted fraud and extortion, underscoring the legal consequences of attempting to exploit public figures for financial gain.
