IDAH, KOGI STATE — A 50-year-old man, Musa Kimono, was reportedly shot and stabbed to death by unidentified gunmen at his residence in the Oketecheje area of Idah Local Government Area, Kogi State, late Thursday night. The attack reportedly occurred in front of his mother and young son.
According to a family member who requested anonymity, three armed men on motorcycles stormed Kimono’s home while he was speaking with his mother and son. The assailants allegedly opened fire and stabbed him multiple times, causing fatal blood loss before neighbors could intervene. “She begged the attackers to spare his life, but they refused. Her cries for help eventually alerted the neighbors, but by the time assistance arrived, he had already died,” the source stated.
The attackers reportedly fled the scene on their motorcycles, and the exact motive for the killing remains unclear. Family members confirmed that the police were notified immediately, and Kimono’s body was taken to a local hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
A police source in Idah confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators. Attempts to obtain official comments from the Kogi State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, did not respond to calls or messages regarding the incident.
Residents in the community expressed shock over the brutal attack, describing it as a disturbing escalation of violent incidents in the area. Analysts and security observers note that similar home invasions by armed individuals have contributed to rising insecurity across parts of Kogi State, highlighting challenges in local law enforcement response and intelligence gathering.
Authorities have urged community members to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity while the investigation continues. Meanwhile, the Idah Local Government Council and local leaders have called for heightened security measures to protect vulnerable households and prevent further violent incidents.
The tragic killing underscores growing concerns over the safety of families in Kogi State, as residents grapple with the fear of armed attacks and the psychological trauma associated with witnessing such violent crimes.
