Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have repelled coordinated terrorist assaults on Limankara and Kukawa communities in Borno State, killing more than 25 fighters linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province, according to security sources.

The engagements reportedly occurred during attempted incursions by insurgents who attacked military positions in the affected areas. Limankara, located in a remote part of northern Borno, and Kukawa, near the Lake Chad axis, have both experienced intermittent attacks in recent years due to their strategic significance within the broader counter-insurgency theatre.

Military sources indicated that troops responded with sustained firepower, overwhelming the attackers and forcing them to retreat. During the operations, several gun trucks and motorcycles used by the insurgents were destroyed, while a cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered.

The destruction of mobility assets, including gun-mounted vehicles and motorbikes, is considered significant in degrading the operational capacity of insurgent groups. Analysts note that such equipment enables rapid movement across difficult terrain, particularly in the Lake Chad region where road infrastructure is limited.

Operation Hadin Kai remains the principal military formation coordinating counter-terrorism operations across Nigeria’s North East. In recent months, troops have intensified offensive maneuvers aimed at dismantling insurgent enclaves, intercepting logistics routes, and preventing attacks on civilian communities.

Security experts observe that sustained pressure on armed groups is critical in preventing regrouping efforts. While territorial control by insurgents has diminished compared to earlier years of the conflict, sporadic assaults and ambushes continue to test military resilience.

Residents in parts of northern Borno have repeatedly expressed relief following successful repulsions of insurgent attacks, though they remain cautious about the potential for retaliatory actions. Military authorities have maintained that clearance operations and patrols will continue in affected corridors to consolidate recent gains.

The latest engagement underscores the persistent volatility of the North East security environment, even as counter-insurgency operations record tactical successes. Defence officials are expected to provide further operational details in subsequent briefings.
