A woman believed to be from Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State is currently receiving medical treatment at the General Hospital in Musawa after being shot in the leg during a bandit attack in Jikamshi town. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, has triggered efforts by residents and local authorities to locate the victim’s family and inform them about her condition.

The injured woman identified herself as Hauwa, saying she is a resident of the Unguwar Mata area near the water tank in Malumfashi town. According to the information she provided to those assisting her, she has three children named Hajara, Usman, and Naziru. She explained that she sustained the gunshot wound when armed bandits attacked the area where she was present during the violent incident.

Medical personnel at the General Hospital in Musawa confirmed that the woman was brought to the facility with a gunshot wound to the leg shortly after the attack. Doctors and nurses have since been attending to her injuries while monitoring her condition to ensure she stabilizes following the trauma she experienced during the assault.

Sources within the hospital said the woman appeared to have been caught in the chaos that followed the attack by the armed group. Residents in the area said the gunmen stormed Jikamshi town and opened fire during the incident, forcing many people to flee for safety as panic spread across the community.

Although the full details of the attack are still emerging, residents familiar with the incident described it as another episode in the series of violent raids that have affected communities in parts of northern Nigeria. In several areas across Katsina State, bandit groups have carried out attacks on villages and rural settlements, often targeting residents for kidnapping, extortion, or intimidation.

Local sources said the injured woman was eventually transported to Musawa for medical care after community members realized the seriousness of her injury. Concerned residents helped ensure she was taken to the hospital where doctors could treat the gunshot wound.

While receiving treatment, Hauwa reportedly told hospital staff and volunteers that she lives in the Unguwar Mata neighborhood in Malumfashi town, close to a water tank landmark within the area. She also mentioned that she has three children, identifying them as Hajara, Usman, and Naziru.

However, efforts to contact her relatives have so far proven difficult. Because she was transported to the hospital without accompanying family members, medical staff and community members have begun circulating information about her identity in hopes of locating her relatives.

Local volunteers and residents assisting the hospital have appealed to anyone who recognizes the woman or knows her family to help pass the information to her relatives in Malumfashi. They believe that notifying her family will allow them to travel to Musawa and support her while she continues to receive treatment.

Community members in Katsina State say situations like this are not uncommon during attacks in rural areas. Victims of violence are sometimes evacuated quickly to medical facilities without proper identification or communication with family members, particularly when attacks occur suddenly and people are forced to flee.

Security challenges in parts of Katsina have persisted for several years, with armed groups frequently targeting communities across multiple local government areas. Malumfashi and surrounding regions have at times experienced security threats, prompting residents to remain alert and rely on both security forces and local vigilance networks for protection.

Residents say the attack in Jikamshi has once again highlighted the vulnerability of rural communities to bandit violence. Many villages lack immediate access to security personnel, making it difficult to prevent attacks or respond quickly when they occur.

Authorities have repeatedly stated that security forces continue to conduct operations aimed at curbing bandit activities across the region. Military units, police officers, and other security agencies have been deployed in various parts of the state in an effort to restore stability and protect communities from armed groups.

Despite these efforts, incidents of violence continue to be reported periodically, leaving residents concerned about their safety and livelihoods. Farmers, traders, and travelers often face risks when moving between rural settlements, especially in areas where security presence is limited.

For the injured woman currently receiving treatment in Musawa, the immediate priority remains medical care and reconnecting her with her family. Hospital staff say her condition is being closely monitored and that she is receiving the necessary treatment for the gunshot wound she sustained.

Meanwhile, residents and community leaders are urging people from Malumfashi, particularly those familiar with the Unguwar Mata area, to help identify the woman and contact her relatives as quickly as possible. They hope that spreading the information will enable family members to locate her and provide the support she needs during recovery.

As the search for her family continues, the incident stands as another reminder of the human toll of the security crisis affecting parts of northern Nigeria. For Hauwa and many others caught in such attacks, recovery often depends not only on medical care but also on the support of family and community networks that help victims rebuild after traumatic experiences.
