Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have recorded multiple operational successes under ongoing counter-terrorism offensives across Borno State and surrounding areas, according to an official military statement.

The Theatre Command confirmed that the operations were carried out under “Operation Desert Sanity V,” a sustained military campaign targeting terrorist groups operating in the North-East region. The latest activities included the neutralisation of suspected fighters, arrest of alleged collaborators, and the surrender of a Boko Haram/ISWAP member.

In one of the major encounters, troops operating alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force engaged suspected terrorists moving from the Yale axis towards the Sambisa Forest corridor. During the engagement, four terrorists were killed. The military reported that troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and food supplies believed to be part of the group’s logistics. Officials stated that the troops returned safely without casualties.

The statement also confirmed that additional coordinated patrols and offensive operations were carried out along several strategic routes, including Dambboa–Maiduguri, Dambboa–Gwoza, and the Goniri axis. These routes are frequently identified by security agencies as infiltration corridors used by armed groups in the region. According to the military, the operations were aimed at restricting movement and disrupting terrorist activities across these areas.

In a separate operation in Kanama, troops conducted a stop-and-search exercise that led to the arrest of two suspected terrorist collaborators. Security officials said the individuals were found in possession of items suspected to be linked to logistical support for armed groups, including clothing and personal belongings. Preliminary investigations reportedly uncovered digital materials considered relevant to ongoing inquiries into possible affiliations with terrorist networks. The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation.

The military further reported that one individual identified as a suspected member of Boko Haram/ISWAP surrendered to troops at a checkpoint in Kukawa Local Government Area. According to the statement, the individual claimed to have been abducted earlier in the year and forcibly conscripted into the group. Authorities said the person is currently undergoing profiling and further investigation to verify the circumstances of involvement.

Operation HADIN KAI stated that these developments form part of continued efforts to degrade the operational capabilities of terrorist groups and restore stability in the North-East. The Theatre Command noted that operations have been sustained across multiple fronts to deny armed groups freedom of movement and disrupt their logistics and communication networks.

The military also confirmed that operations are being conducted in collaboration with local security structures, including the Civilian Joint Task Force, which supports intelligence gathering and ground operations in difficult terrain.

According to the statement signed by the Theatre Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the military high command commended the troops for what it described as resilience and operational effectiveness. It also urged personnel to maintain the current tempo of operations in order to consolidate gains recorded in the region.

Authorities reiterated that the overall objective of the ongoing campaign is to restore peace, security, and normal economic activity across the North-East, a region that has experienced over a decade of insurgency-related violence.

The command further appealed to residents to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support ongoing operations. It stressed that community cooperation remains an important element in counter-insurgency efforts, particularly in identifying suspicious movements and supporting intelligence-led interventions.

Operation HADIN KAI, which oversees military operations in the North-East, continues to conduct coordinated land and air missions targeting insurgent hideouts, supply routes, and operational bases across Borno and neighbouring states.

The latest report reflects ongoing military pressure on armed groups in the region, with repeated engagements aimed at weakening their operational capacity and encouraging defections and surrenders.
