Three female suspects, aged 19, 24 and 25, have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command after a covert operation in Warri uncovered a stash of mixed illicit substances, including a potent imported strain of cannabis known as Canadian Loud, codeine syrup, nitrous oxide and a psychoactive chewing gum. The raid also revealed that a man currently at large is alleged to be the major supplier behind the drug network.

The Delta State Police Command has arrested three female suspects in connection with a drug trafficking operation following a covert raid on their hideout in Warri metropolis. The suspects, identified as Favour Isaac, 25; Favour Felix, 24; and Samson Precious, 19, were arrested on May 7, 2026, at about 9:20 p.m. by operatives of the Effurun Area Command, according to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe.

The operation was conducted following credible intelligence regarding the activities of suspected drug peddlers operating within the Ogbomoro and Ugolo communities in the Warri metropolis. Acting on the intelligence, operatives executed a search warrant at the suspects’ hideout located along River Road in the Ogbomoro community. During the search, police recovered 640 grams of substances suspected to be Canadian Loud, a potent imported strain of cannabis, concealed in various bags and containers.

In addition to the cannabis, the police also recovered 21 bottles of CSC Codeine, a prescription cough syrup often abused for its sedative effects, two canisters containing nitrous oxide (commonly known as “laughing gas”), and two packs of a suspected psychoactive chewing gum branded as “Highness Gum.” The wide variety of seized substances indicates that the suspects were involved in the distribution of multiple types of illicit drugs, a pattern that police say fuels violent crime and social vices among youths.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one Rukewe Tega Isaac, who is currently at large, is allegedly the major supplier behind the drug network, according to the police statement. The police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle the syndicate.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has reaffirmed the command’s resolve to sustain aggressive operations against drug trafficking and related crimes across the state. He noted that the abuse and circulation of illicit drugs remain a major driver of violent crimes and social vices among young people. He urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and useful information to aid ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

This is not the first time the Delta State Police Command has arrested female suspects in connection with drug trafficking. In April 2026, a 33‑year‑old woman, Justina Onokpasa, was also arrested during a raid on a drug hideout in the Ugholo community in Okpe Local Government Area. However, the May 7 operation stands out for the sheer variety of substances recovered and the involvement of multiple female suspects, including one described as a drug baron.

The arrested women are currently in police custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations. The police have warned that anyone involved in the sale, distribution, or consumption of illicit drugs will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Residents of Warri and its environs have expressed relief at the successful operation, noting that drug abuse has become a serious problem among young people in the community.

The issue of drug trafficking and substance abuse remains a significant challenge in Delta State, particularly in urban centres like Warri, where the demand for recreational drugs has created a lucrative black market. The police have intensified their crackdown on drug peddlers in recent months, and the arrest of three female suspects is seen as a significant step in disrupting the supply chain.

Canadian Loud is a high‑grade strain of cannabis that is imported into Nigeria from North America. It is often more expensive than locally grown cannabis and is associated with higher potency. Its presence in Warri suggests that drug trafficking networks in the region have access to international supply chains, a development that poses a serious challenge to law enforcement agencies. Codeine syrup, meanwhile, has been a subject of concern in Nigeria for years, with the government banning its over‑the‑counter sale in 2018. Despite the ban, the substance remains widely abused, often mixed with soft drinks to produce a narcotic cocktail.

Nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” is an inhalant that can produce short‑term euphoria and is sometimes used recreationally at parties and social gatherings. Its use can lead to oxygen deprivation and severe health consequences, including brain damage and death. The emergence of psychoactive chewing gum “Highness Gum” also represents a new and worrying trend in drug consumption, as it can be consumed discreetly and may appeal to younger users.

The Delta State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to working with other security agencies and community stakeholders to combat the scourge of drug abuse. The command also called on parents and guardians to monitor their children and discourage them from engaging in any form of drug‑related activity.

The three arrested women are currently being interrogated, and police have said that more details about the case, including the specific roles of each suspect, will be released as the investigation progresses. The police have also urged anyone with information about the whereabouts of the fleeing suspect, Rukewe Tega Isaac, to contact the nearest police station.
