The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the composition of its National Assembly primary election and appeal committees ahead of the 2027 general elections, while also confirming the screening out of three sitting lawmakers linked to the political bloc associated with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

According to an official statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the newly constituted committees will oversee the conduct of primary elections across all states of the federation, ensuring compliance with party guidelines and electoral procedures.

The committees include separate structures for the primary election process and for handling appeals arising from disputes. For Rivers State specifically, the APC appointed Wahab Owokoniran as chairman of the primary election committee, while Musa Diko was named to head the appeal committee.

Other members of the Rivers primary election committee include Abdullahi Candido, Tony Onu, Sulaiman Sadik, Moses Alokpa, and Samuel Danjuma, with Sunny Omotola serving as secretary. The appeal committee includes Baushe Isah, Audu Elias, Abgoola Dabiri, and Oyinade Nathan-March.

The announcement comes amid internal screening exercises in which three serving members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State were reportedly not cleared to participate in the APC primaries. The affected lawmakers are Anderson Alisson, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, and Boma Goodhead.

These lawmakers are described in reports as politically aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, reflecting ongoing factional tensions within Rivers State politics. Their exclusion from the screening process has been widely interpreted as part of broader internal realignments within the APC structure in the state.

At the same time, lawmakers and political actors associated with former Rivers State Governor and current Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike were reportedly cleared to participate in the primaries. This includes Hart Cyril, Blessing Amadi, Dumnamene Dekor, Martin Amaewhule, Solomon Bob, Uche Felix Nwaeke, and Victor Obuzor.

The Rivers State political landscape has remained highly contested since the escalation of the rift between political factions aligned to Fubara and those aligned to Wike, leading to repeated disputes over party control, defections, and legislative alignment.

The APC leadership has urged party members to maintain discipline and follow due process during the primaries, stressing that the newly formed committees are expected to ensure transparency, fairness, and orderliness throughout the exercise.

While the party has not issued detailed public explanations for each disqualification, the screening process is understood to be part of broader preparations for the 2027 elections, where internal candidate selection will play a key role in shaping electoral outcomes.

As of reporting time, no formal legal challenge has been confirmed from the affected lawmakers, and the APC has not indicated any reversal of the screening decisions.

Stone Reporters note that the development underscores continuing factional struggles within Rivers State politics, where party alignment and political loyalty remain central to candidate selection processes.
