Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has been appointed to the board of the Katutu Civil Rights Center, an international civil rights organisation based in New York, United States.

The appointment was confirmed by the organisation and reported on 15 May 2026 across multiple media outlets, which stated that Adeyanju’s inclusion on the board reflects his long-standing work in civil liberties, democracy advocacy, and human rights defence in Nigeria and across Africa.

According to the announcement, the Katutu Civil Rights Center is a non-governmental organisation focused on human rights advocacy, civic engagement, and support for marginalised communities, operating across multiple regions.

In his acceptance remarks, Adeyanju reportedly expressed appreciation for the appointment and indicated readiness to contribute to the organisation’s mission of strengthening civil rights protections and democratic accountability.

The organisation described the appointment as part of its effort to expand its leadership structure with individuals who have demonstrated active involvement in human rights and social justice advocacy.

Deji Adeyanju is a Nigerian lawyer and prominent civil rights activist known for his work on police accountability, electoral justice, and legal representation of activists and detainees. Public records show he has led or participated in several advocacy platforms and civil society organisations focused on democratic reforms in Nigeria.

He is also the founder of Concerned Nigerians and a founding partner of a legal practice engaged in human rights litigation and public interest cases. His profile in Nigeria’s civic space has included legal representation of protesters, journalists, and individuals involved in high-profile political and rights-related cases.

The appointment adds to his growing international engagement within civil society networks and human rights institutions outside Nigeria.

As of reporting time, the Katutu Civil Rights Center has not issued further details on the scope of his board responsibilities or the duration of the appointment.

Stone Reporters note that such international board appointments typically involve advisory roles in policy direction, advocacy strategy, and organisational governance within civil rights institutions.
