The Ogun State Police Command has delivered a crushing blow to a kidnapping syndicate terrorising the Iperin area of Atan‑Ijebu, killing two suspected kidnappers, arresting the alleged gang leader, and recovering a cache of weapons and ransom money in an intelligence‑led operation that spanned several days. The breakthrough came after the successful rescue of three victims who had been abducted on May 11, 2026, in the Ipojo Area of Iperin, Atan‑Ijebu. The victims were freed unharmed on May 14 following the payment of an undisclosed ransom.
Following the release of the victims, police operatives of the Anti‑Kidnapping Unit intensified their manhunt for the members of the syndicate. Acting on credible intelligence, they closed in on the gang’s hideout along the Ijebu‑Ode/Ibadan Road in the early hours of May 15, 2026. When the operatives arrived, the suspects opened fire, triggering a fierce gun battle. The police responded with professional precision, neutralising two of the kidnappers on the spot. Several other gang members fled into the nearby forest with gunshot wounds.
The operation did not end there. Through subsequent intelligence work, the police captured the alleged kingpin of the syndicate, identified as Seriki Mohammed Abdullahi, along with another gang member, Mohammed Bello. Items recovered from the suspects include an AK‑47 rifle loaded with 10 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, a single‑barrel gun, N1.5 million believed to be part of the ransom money, several mobile phones, and a black bag suspected of containing other criminal paraphernalia. The bodies of the two neutralised suspects were deposited in a morgue for autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their bravery and tactical precision. He reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to aggressive operations against kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state. “We will not rest until every criminal element is flushed out,” the CP was quoted as saying. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.
The operation has been widely hailed by residents of Iperin and surrounding communities, who have endured repeated incidents of abduction and extortion. The arrest of the gang leader is expected to significantly disrupt the kidnapping network in the Ogun‑Oyo border area, which has become a hotspot for such crimes. The police have assured that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing members of the syndicate and to dismantle the gang’s broader logistical and financial networks.
The Ogun State Police Command continues to urge citizens to provide timely and credible information that can aid in crime prevention and detection. With this latest success, the command has demonstrated that intelligence‑led policing, combined with swift and decisive action, remains the most effective weapon against organised crime.
