Ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the Niger State Police Command conducted a significant crackdown on criminal hideouts in the Suleja metropolis, resulting in the arrest of 27 suspected hoodlums from five different states. The operation, carried out by the Tactical Support Team in collaboration with the Suleja Area Command, was aimed at ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah festival.
The police spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. He detailed that the coordinated raids occurred on Sunday, May 24, 2026, between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. The operation specifically targeted notorious black spots within Suleja, including the Kantoma area, Babangida Market, and Panteka, an area infamously known as “Jungle,” which was believed to be a hub for thugs and criminal activities disrupting public peace.
The suspects, who hailed from Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, and Niger states, were apprehended during the sweeps. Those arrested from the “Jungle” area included Haruna Idris (20), Imrana Abdullahi (20), Mohammed Isah (27), and Yusuf Surajo (22), all from Niger State. Others from Katsina State included Jibrin Shehu (26), Ahmad Samaila (22), and Jamilu Idris (23). A larger contingent from Kano State was also detained, including Auwal Ibrahim (28), Mohammed Salisu (20), Murtala Mohammed (28), Abdulshakur Mohammed (28), Jibril Abubakar (30), Hamisu Abdullahi (27), Hassan Ismail (29), Mukhtar Adam (38), Adamu Ibrahim (27), Abba Ibrahim (22), Mutawakil Usman (27), Ibrahim Adam (26), Aliyu Jibrin (28), Mohammed Bashir (30), and Zuhairu Ahmed (30). Additionally, Salisu Dauda (22) was arrested from Yobe State.
The police also apprehended Auwal Isah (28), a Kaduna State resident living on Madalla Road; Suleiman Abubakar (28) and Bala Musa (25), both from Kano State residing around Suleja Club, were arrested in the Kantoma area. Another suspect, Ibrahim Shuaibu (22) of Kano State, was caught at Babangida Market. All individuals were found in possession of suspected cannabis and other illicit substances.
According to the police, a significant cache of dangerous weapons and illegal items was recovered from the suspects. The haul included 15 mobile phones, ATM cards, suspected fake identity cards, 10 clubs locally known as “gora,” cutlasses, swords, a curved long weapon known as “garrio,” two axes, scissors, knives, and a bag containing suspected cannabis. All 27 suspects are currently in police custody and are being interrogated to ascertain the full extent of their involvement in criminal activities and to identify any possible accomplices.
SP Abiodun stated that the suspects would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for prosecution. He assured residents that the raid operations on identified criminal hideouts and black spots would be sustained throughout the festive period and beyond. He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious situations to the police for immediate intervention.
