A 62‑year‑old community leader, Joshua Bulus, who served as the Mai‑Anguwa (village head) of Dyein community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, has been found dead with multiple machete‑inflicted wounds. Security sources told counter‑insurgency expert Zagazola Makama that troops of Operation Safe Haven discovered the body on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, after responding to a distress report from the community.

According to the sources, troops arrived at the scene at approximately 8:15 a.m. after receiving information that a corpse had been sighted on the outskirts of Dyein village. The victim was identified as Joshua Bulus, the village head. Preliminary findings suggest that the deceased had been carrying out routine night vigilance duties within the community before he was allegedly attacked by unknown assailants. Security officials suspect that criminal elements may have been responsible for the killing, although authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify those behind the attack.

Following the discovery, troops have maintained a strong presence in the area to prevent any breakdown of law and order and to reassure residents of their safety. Authorities have also intensified efforts to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The security situation in the area remains under close monitoring as operations continue to maintain peace and stability.

The killing of the village head adds to the growing concerns over insecurity in Plateau State, which has witnessed repeated attacks by armed groups in recent months.
