The Ogun State Police Command has announced a major security breakthrough following coordinated intelligence-driven operations across Sango-Ota, Owode-Egba, and Agbado, resulting in the arrest of seven suspects linked to armed robbery, house breaking, stealing, conspiracy, and breach of peace. The command disclosed the arrests in a press release made available to journalists on June 5, 2026, describing the operations as part of a sustained statewide strategy to dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace.

In Sango-Ota, operatives of the Sango-Ota Division arrested three individuals in connection with an armed robbery incident in the Alasia Community. The suspects were identified as Pelumi Akintande, 21 years; Mojeed Sanusi, 28 years; and Mubarak Lateef, 17 years. According to the police, the trio allegedly participated in an attack on a resident during which valuables were forcefully taken. Acting on prompt information from members of the public, police operatives swiftly tracked and apprehended the suspects. A locally fabricated cut-to-size pistol and one expended cartridge, believed to have been used in the operation, were recovered from the scene. The command stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.

In Owode-Egba, two separate operations led to the arrest of three more suspects. The first arrest involved Damilare Makanjuola, 22 years, who was apprehended in connection with house breaking and stealing at Ofada. Police said the suspect was caught after allegedly scaling a fence and attempting to gain unlawful access into a shop. Further investigation linked him to other reported burglary incidents within Sun City Estate, Ofada, where electrical items, cash exceeding one hundred thousand naira (₦100,000), and personal valuables were allegedly stolen. Recovered items have been secured as exhibits, and the investigation continues.

Still in Owode-Egba, operatives arrested Tijani Jubril, 28 years, and Ezra Modi, 22 years, for conspiracy and stealing within Treasure Island Estate in Awo Village. The two suspects were intercepted while attempting to dispose of stolen electrical appliances concealed in a sack. Police investigations revealed that the items had allegedly been removed from a residential property within the estate following forced entry. The stolen items were recovered intact, and both suspects are in custody as inquiries proceed.

In Agbado, officers of the Agbado Division arrested Waris Adebesin, 22 years, for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and threatening violence. According to the press release, the suspect was allegedly found armed with a knife while creating tension and disrupting access around a secondary school environment. The swift intervention of the police prevented the escalation of panic, restored calm, and ensured the safety of students, staff, and members of the public. A knife was recovered at the point of arrest.

All seven suspects are currently in custody undergoing discreet investigation. The police command noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals linked to the various incidents. Recovered exhibits have been duly documented and secured for evidential purposes.

The Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the gallant operatives for their professionalism, swift response, and disciplined conduct throughout the operations. He also expressed appreciation to members of the public for their vigilance and timely information, which he said significantly contributed to the successful outcomes recorded. The command assured residents that these achievements form part of a sustained, statewide security strategy aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring lasting peace across Ogun State.

The police also sympathized with affected victims and assured them that justice will be pursued diligently and without compromise. Members of the public were urged to remain vigilant and continue to support the police by promptly reporting suspicious activities. The command provided a toll-free emergency line branded “Gateway Shield” for residents to report credible information, though the full number was not listed in the release.

This wave of arrests comes amid growing concerns over rising incidents of armed robbery and burglary in Ogun State’s rapidly urbanizing corridors, particularly in border towns like Sango-Ota and Agbado, which share proximity with Lagos State. Criminal gangs often exploit the porous inter-state boundaries to launch attacks and retreat to hideouts. The police command has increasingly relied on community intelligence and rapid response teams to counter this trend. The arrest of three suspects in Alasia Community for armed robbery, complete with the recovery of a locally made pistol, suggests that the command is making inroads into the supply chain of illegal firearms.

For the residents of Sun City Estate in Ofada and Treasure Island Estate in Awo Village, the arrests bring a measure of relief. Stolen electrical items and cash have been recovered, though police have not yet disclosed whether the recovered money has been returned to the victims. Legal proceedings are expected to begin once investigations are concluded and case files are forwarded to the state’s Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

The case of Waris Adebesin, the 22-year-old arrested near a secondary school with a knife, has drawn particular attention from parents and school administrators in Agbado. While the police classified the offense as conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, the presence of a weapon near a school raises deeper concerns about security in educational environments. The command has not indicated whether Adebesin had any prior criminal record or affiliation with any group.

As of the evening of June 5, no lawyers or family members of the arrested individuals have issued public statements. The Ogun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining the momentum of these operations, promising that more breakthroughs are expected as intelligence gathering continues across the state’s twenty local government areas.
