Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, declared on Sunday that Nigeria does not belong to kidnappers and that no individual or group should be allowed to hold the nation captive for personal or political gain. He made the declaration during a visit to LoveWorld City, popularly known as Christ Embassy, in the state capital.
Addressing the congregation alongside the officiating pastor, Moses Olayemi, Governor Okpebholo expressed growing concern over the rising wave of kidnapping, cultism, and related security threats, which he warned could intensify as the 2027 elections draw closer. He called for sustained prayers against these challenges and also urged the faithful to pray for wisdom and strength for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lead the nation effectively.
“This country does not belong to kidnappers,” the governor stated. “No individual or group should hold the nation captive for personal or political interests.” He expressed confidence that with the prayers of God’s people and collective efforts, the country would overcome its security and economic difficulties.
The governor further requested prayers for peace, prosperity, good governance, and economic recovery, adding that prayers for the nation would naturally extend to the safety and well-being of Edo State and other parts of the country. In response, Pastor Olayemi commended Governor Okpebholo for ongoing developmental projects in the state, particularly improvements in road infrastructure, and led the congregation in prayers for divine peace, protection, economic restoration, and spiritual awakening.
