ANKA, Nigeria – Suspected bandits attacked Wuyya village in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Sunday evening, June 7, 2026, killing four residents in the latest wave of violence to hit the troubled northwestern state. The victims were buried on Monday morning in accordance with Islamic rites as grief and anxiety swept through the community.
Confirming the incident on Monday, June 8, security analyst and conflict tracker Bakatsine said the assailants struck the village overnight, opening fire on residents. “Last night, bandits attacked Wuyya village in Anka LGA, Zamfara State, killing four residents,” Bakatsine said in a security update. According to him, the victims have been buried as mourning grips the community, with growing concern over worsening insecurity in the area. “How long will rural communities in Zamfara continue to endure repeated deadly attacks without lasting protection?” he asked.
The attack came as part of a broader surge in violence across Zamfara State. On the same night bandits struck Wuyya, security analyst Bakatsine also reported that three farmers were killed while working on their farmlands in Zurmi Local Government Area – two residents of Zurmi town and one from a nearby village. Later that night, bandits reportedly stormed Baichen Dauran community in Zurmi LGA, killing one person. Travelers were also allegedly abducted along a road near Baichen Dauran, including a commercial driver from Zurmi identified as Kabiru Takaye.
The attacks on farmers in Zurmi followed a similar incident on June 3, when at least nine farmers were killed and others missing after bandits attacked farmlands in Gidan Danjumma community, Birnin Magaji LGA. Residents of Zurmi and surrounding communities are said to be living in fear as recurring attacks continue to threaten lives and livelihoods. The killings also came barely two weeks after bandits kidnapped and killed a teacher from Federal Government College, Anka, Mallam Mustapha Maru, after his family paid over N3 million in ransom.
Despite ongoing efforts by security forces, residents say terrorist attacks continue unabated, leaving many communities living in fear and uncertainty. Zamfara and neighbouring Katsina states have become major hotspots for terrorist attacks, mass abductions and cattle rustling in recent years. The persistent insecurity has forced thousands of residents to flee their homes, with several communities deserted due to incessant kidnappings and deadly raids. Authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incidents at the time of filing this report.
