A Fulani socio-cultural group has called on and to caution Yoruba nation agitator , popularly known as Sunday Igboho, over statements and activities it described as capable of escalating ethnic tensions in southwestern .

The appeal was made on June 22, 2026, in Ibadan, Oyo State, by the leadership of the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN) during a press briefing addressing growing concerns over the safety and peaceful coexistence of Fulani communities in the region.

The group alleged that recent comments and actions associated with Sunday Igboho have heightened fear among Fulani residents, particularly pastoralists and settlers living across the Southwest, warning that unchecked rhetoric could undermine peace and security.

According to the association, while every Nigerian has the constitutional right to freedom of expression, such rights must not be exercised in ways that promote hostility, division, or violence among ethnic groups.

The Fulani group urged President Tinubu to intervene at the federal level by reinforcing national unity and ensuring that inflammatory statements from any quarter are addressed in accordance with the law.

It also appealed to Governor Makinde to intensify efforts toward maintaining peace in Oyo State, noting that the state has historically remained home to diverse ethnic communities living together peacefully.

GAFDAN stressed that the majority of Fulani people residing in the Southwest are law-abiding citizens engaged in legitimate businesses such as cattle rearing, trading, and agriculture, and should not be profiled based on the actions of criminal elements.

The group further called on security agencies to remain vigilant and prevent any breakdown of law and order that may arise from ethnic provocations or retaliatory actions.

Sunday Igboho rose to national prominence following his campaign against criminal activities linked to armed herders in parts of the Southwest, particularly in Oyo State. His activism has continued to generate sharp reactions from supporters and critics alike.

Observers say the latest call from the Fulani group highlights the need for sustained dialogue, conflict resolution, and stronger security interventions to address longstanding tensions between farming and herding communities.

As of the time of filing this report, Sunday Igboho had not issued an official response to the group’s demands.
