The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, has appealed to the Oyo State Government to urgently address outstanding welfare issues affecting resident doctors and other healthcare workers in the state.

The appeal was made by the Association of Resident Doctors, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, on Monday, June 22, 2026, as the group called on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to facilitate the immediate release of the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) and payment of outstanding minimum wage-related arrears owed to resident doctors and other health workers.

The doctors said the delay in disbursing the training fund and settling the outstanding payments had created challenges for medical professionals working within the state’s healthcare system.

The Association explained that the Medical Residency Training Fund is an important support mechanism for resident doctors undergoing postgraduate medical training.

According to the doctors, timely access to the fund helps resident doctors meet training requirements, attend professional programmes, and improve their medical knowledge and skills.

The group said residency training is essential for developing specialist doctors who provide advanced healthcare services to patients.

The association noted that delays in providing the necessary support could affect doctors’ ability to participate fully in required training activities.

The doctors also raised concerns over unpaid minimum wage arrears, saying the outstanding payments affect healthcare workers who continue to provide services across the state.

The association appealed to Governor Makinde to intervene and ensure that the issues are resolved without further delay.

The doctors stressed that healthcare workers play a critical role in maintaining the state’s health system and require appropriate welfare support.

They said addressing the outstanding obligations would demonstrate the government’s commitment to supporting medical professionals.

The appeal comes amid broader discussions about the welfare of healthcare workers and the need to strengthen the country’s health sector.

Resident doctors across Nigeria have continued to emphasise the importance of proper funding, training opportunities, and improved working conditions.

The LAUTECH Teaching Hospital doctors said resolving the issues would help boost morale among medical personnel.

They explained that healthcare delivery depends not only on facilities and equipment but also on the commitment and wellbeing of health workers.

The association called for cooperation between the state government and healthcare professionals to improve medical services.

The doctors maintained that supporting residency training would contribute to the development of more specialists who can serve patients effectively.

They also noted that settling outstanding wage-related obligations would support workers facing financial pressures.

The group urged the Oyo State Government to consider the request as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.

The association said resident doctors remain committed to their duties and continue to provide care despite existing challenges.

The doctors expressed hope that the governor would respond positively to their appeal and take steps toward resolving the outstanding matters.

They stated that a timely intervention would support healthcare workers and improve the overall efficiency of the state’s health system.

The appeal highlights ongoing concerns within the healthcare sector about funding, training, and workers’ welfare.

The Association of Resident Doctors, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, said it remains focused on constructive engagement with authorities to find solutions.

The group maintained that improving healthcare services requires investment in both medical infrastructure and the professionals responsible for patient care.
