The Deputy Inspector-General of Police supervising the South-West Geopolitical Zone and in charge of Information and Communication Technology, DIG Fayoade Mustapha Adegoke, undertook a strategic working visit to Ogun State on Thursday, June 25, 2026, reinforcing the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to collaborative, intelligence-led, and technology-driven policing. The visit, carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, featured high-level engagements with the Ogun State Government, traditional institutions, critical stakeholders, sister security agencies, police officers, and the Police College of Information and Technology.
The Deputy Inspector-General was accompanied on the visit by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, AIG Olohundare Jimoh Moshood. They were received at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, by the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, alongside members of the Command Management Team.
The visit commenced with an interactive stakeholders' engagement at the POWA Hall, attended by the representative of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola, CFR, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, other traditional rulers, community and religious leaders, labour unions, transport unions, professional associations, youth organisations, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and representatives of sister security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), the Ogun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps), and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).
Addressing the gathering, DIG Fayoade described security as a collective responsibility and emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among government, traditional institutions, security agencies, stakeholders, and members of the public. He urged community leaders to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information while encouraging Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to sustain regular engagements with their communities to strengthen grassroots policing. The DIG also stressed the importance of technology in modern law enforcement, highlighting the role of the Police College of Information and Technology in equipping officers with the digital skills necessary to combat emerging threats, including cybercrime and digital fraud.
The visit included an inspection of the Police College of Information and Technology, where DIG Fayoade assessed ongoing training programmes and infrastructure development aimed at enhancing the Force's technological capabilities. The college, which serves as a hub for ICT training for police personnel across the country, has been instrumental in the Force's efforts to modernise its operations and improve service delivery. The DIG's visit underscored the commitment of the police leadership to integrating technology into every aspect of policing, from intelligence gathering to crime investigation and community engagement.
The working visit also provided an opportunity for DIG Fayoade to engage with police officers at the Ogun State Command, where he commended them for their dedication and professionalism. He urged them to remain vigilant and uphold the highest standards of conduct in their interactions with the public. The DIG reiterated the Force's zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and misconduct, warning that any officer found engaging in unethical behaviour would face disciplinary action.
The visit comes amid ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen internal security and enhance community policing across the South-West geopolitical zone. The South-West has experienced its share of security challenges, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult-related violence, prompting the police to adopt a more proactive and collaborative approach to crime prevention. The engagement with traditional rulers and community leaders is particularly significant, as it recognises the critical role that traditional institutions play in maintaining peace and security at the grassroots level.
The Ogun State Government, represented at the stakeholders' meeting, expressed its appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the police in their efforts to protect lives and property. The government noted that security remains a top priority and that it would continue to provide the necessary resources and support to enable the police to discharge their duties effectively. The traditional rulers in attendance also pledged their support, emphasising the importance of community involvement in security matters.
The DIG's visit to Ogun State is part of a broader strategy by the police leadership to deepen security collaboration across the South-West. Similar visits have been conducted in other states in the region, with the aim of strengthening partnerships and enhancing operational effectiveness. The police have also been working closely with state governments to establish and strengthen community-based security initiatives, including the Amotekun Corps and other local security outfits.
As the visit concluded, DIG Fayoade expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation and commitment demonstrated by all stakeholders. He assured the people of Ogun State that the police would continue to work tirelessly to ensure their safety and security. The visit served as a reminder that security is a shared responsibility and that the police alone cannot achieve lasting peace without the support and cooperation of the communities they serve.
