The Ogun State Police Command has deployed maximum operational strength to the Sagamu–Benin Expressway following a security incident around the J3 area on Thursday, June 25, 2026, launching an intensive bush-combing operation to track fleeing suspects and restore public confidence on one of Nigeria's busiest interstate corridors. The command, in a press release issued on Friday, June 26, 2026, by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, assured commuters and residents of the area that there was no cause for alarm as all necessary security measures had been put in place to ensure public safety.
According to the statement, police operatives responded immediately to a distress report received from the area and swiftly activated a coordinated security operation. On the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, the command deployed four units of Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and other tactical teams to the scene. The intensive bush-combing exercise is ongoing, with the deployed operatives making significant operational progress in tracking the fleeing suspects, dominating the area, and ensuring the safety of commuters and inhabitants of the corridor.
The Sagamu–Benin Expressway is a critical artery connecting the South-West to the South-South and South-East regions of Nigeria, making it a vital route for commerce and transportation. The J3 area, in particular, has been identified as a stretch where criminal elements occasionally operate, prompting heightened vigilance from security agencies. The police command's swift response underscores its commitment to protecting lives and property along this strategic corridor.
The Ogun State Police Command has urged members of the public to remain calm and go about their lawful activities, assuring them that the security situation is being effectively managed. The command also appealed to residents and commuters to provide useful information to security agencies to aid in the ongoing operation.
This deployment comes as part of broader efforts by the police to maintain peace and security across Ogun State, which shares borders with Lagos, Oyo, and Ondo states, as well as the Republic of Benin. The command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that criminals find no safe haven in the state and that all necessary resources are deployed to protect lives and property.
The bush-combing exercise is expected to continue until the fleeing suspects are apprehended and the area is fully secured. The police have assured the public that regular updates will be provided as the operation progresses.
