At least 15 people — 14 men and one woman — have been buried following a deadly bandit attack on Tungar Bore, a settlement in Sado village, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The attack reportedly occurred on the night of Thursday, June 26, 2026, when heavily armed bandits stormed the rural settlement and opened fire on residents. Witnesses said the attackers arrived in large numbers, shooting indiscriminately and causing panic as villagers scrambled for safety.

Local sources said the assailants carried out the raid with brutal force, killing 15 residents during the assault. Several others were also said to have sustained injuries, while some residents fled into nearby bushes to escape the violence.

The victims were laid to rest on Friday, June 27, in accordance with Islamic rites, as grieving families, community members and local leaders gathered in mourning. The burials were marked by deep sorrow, with residents lamenting the continued bloodshed in rural communities across the state.

The latest killings have once again highlighted the worsening security crisis across northwestern Nigeria, particularly in Zamfara, where bandit groups continue to carry out attacks involving mass killings, kidnappings for ransom, cattle rustling and village raids.

Residents of Talata Mafara said communities in the area have lived under constant fear due to repeated attacks by armed groups. Many accused bandits of exploiting weak security presence and poor road access to strike vulnerable settlements with little resistance.

Community leaders are calling on the federal government, military authorities and security agencies to intensify operations in affected areas and prevent further attacks. They warned that continued violence is devastating livelihoods, displacing families and deepening humanitarian suffering.

The tragedy in Tungar Bore adds to the growing death toll from banditry in Zamfara and neighbouring northwestern states, where insecurity remains one of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges despite ongoing military operations.

As mourning continues, residents are hoping for stronger security intervention to end the cycle of violence that has left many communities shattered by grief and fear.
