The incident occurred late Wednesday, June 24, 2026, along the Gyu axis, also known as Twins Hill, in Miango community, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. A statement issued by Weyi Agara, Publicity Secretary of the Miango Youth Development Association, said Danjuma was attacked while returning home from a function. Reports identified him as the Director of Socials of MYDA, a position he had reportedly occupied for about two months before his death.
Danjuma, popularly known as Excoba, was described by members of MYDA as an active youth leader who contributed to community activities and development efforts. The association said his death represented a major loss to the organisation and the wider Irigwe community, where he was known for his involvement in youth affairs and community engagement.
According to the statement by MYDA, Danjuma was returning from an event when the attackers reportedly laid an ambush along the route. The association said he was shot during the attack and died from injuries sustained. The circumstances surrounding the attack have raised concerns among residents about safety along roads connecting communities in the area.
The killing has renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of Plateau State, particularly communities around Bassa Local Government Area. Residents have continued to face security challenges involving attacks, threats and violence, leading to repeated calls for stronger protection and quicker response from security agencies.
MYDA described Danjuma’s death as another painful incident affecting the Miango community. The group said he was committed to serving young people and supporting community development initiatives before his life was cut short by the attack. Members of the association expressed condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
The association called on security agencies to investigate the killing and ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice. MYDA said incidents of violence against community members should not continue without accountability, stressing the need for authorities to protect residents and prevent further attacks.
The death of Danjuma has also affected his immediate family. Reports indicate that he left behind a young widow and a son, adding to the emotional impact of the attack on those close to him. Community members have continued to mourn his passing while demanding improved security measures.
The Miango area has experienced security difficulties over the years, with residents reporting attacks and threats affecting daily life. Communities in the region have often raised concerns about movement, farming activities and the safety of people travelling between villages.
Bassa Local Government Area is among areas in Plateau State where authorities have continued security operations aimed at protecting residents. Security agencies have conducted patrols and other measures in affected communities as part of efforts to address violence and criminal activities.
The latest incident has brought renewed attention to the challenges faced by rural communities in Plateau State. Many residents rely on local roads and pathways to move between communities, making security along these routes a major concern.
Community leaders have repeatedly encouraged residents to cooperate with security agencies by sharing information that can assist in preventing attacks. Authorities have also emphasised the importance of intelligence gathering as part of efforts to improve security responses.
The identity of the attackers has not been officially confirmed by security authorities. While community representatives have expressed their views about those suspected of carrying out the attack, investigations are expected to establish the full details surrounding the killing.
The Plateau State Government has previously faced calls from residents and community groups to strengthen security arrangements. Stakeholders have continued to demand measures that would protect communities and reduce the frequency of violent incidents.
Security challenges in Plateau have affected different communities through loss of lives, displacement and disruption of economic activities. Many residents have experienced difficulties carrying out normal activities because of concerns over safety.
Danjuma’s death has therefore become another example of the impact of insecurity on local communities. His colleagues within MYDA said his contribution to youth development would be remembered despite his sudden death.
The Miango Youth Development Association has remained involved in issues affecting young people in the community. The organisation has often spoken on matters relating to youth participation, development and community welfare.
The killing has increased pressure on security agencies to intensify efforts in vulnerable areas. Residents want stronger presence and improved response systems to prevent attacks and protect people travelling within the communities.
Plateau State has remained one of the areas where authorities continue to balance security operations with efforts to promote peace among different communities. Officials have repeatedly called for dialogue and lawful approaches to resolving conflicts.
The investigation into Danjuma’s death is expected to provide more information about the attack and the people involved. At the time of reporting, no arrest connected to the killing had been publicly announced.
The incident has also drawn attention to the risks faced by community leaders who participate in local activities. Many youth representatives and community workers operate within areas where security challenges remain a major concern.
For members of MYDA and the wider Miango community, the focus remains on mourning their colleague and seeking justice. The association has continued to appeal for authorities to ensure that the circumstances behind his death are properly addressed.
The killing comes amid continued discussions about security in Plateau State and the need for long-term solutions. Residents and community organisations continue to call for measures that will allow people to live and work without fear.
Authorities are expected to continue monitoring the situation while investigating the attack. Security agencies have the responsibility of determining the facts and taking appropriate action based on the findings.
The death of John Telle Danjuma has left a community grieving and has renewed calls for improved protection of residents in vulnerable areas. His killing remains a reminder of the continuing security challenges affecting parts of Plateau State.
