The Joint Campus Council (JCC) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Edo State, has moved to allay fears among students of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, following the institution's decision to replace the KOFA platform with a new student management system. In a statement issued on Saturday, June 27, 2026, NANS JCC Edo reassured students that the transition would be seamless, with all records safely migrated and no disruption to academic activities.

According to NANS, the clarification followed a meeting with the University Management regarding concerns surrounding the transition. During the engagement, the University explained that AAU is not indebted to KOFA. Rather, the change became necessary after KOFA requested a substantial increase in its service charges. The University reportedly declined the request, stating that approving the increase would have placed an additional financial burden on students through higher school fees and other related charges. Following the University's decision, KOFA allegedly threatened to discontinue its services.

KOFA, which stands for the West African eUniversity Project (WAeUP) Kofa, is a comprehensive student management system that has served as the single access point to educational resources and information for AAU students. It controls application and student registration processes and provides comprehensive and transparent information about study progress. However, following the breakdown of negotiations with KOFA over service charges, the University engaged a new service provider. Management stated that the new platform will offer improved, more efficient services at the same or even lower cost than the previous system.

The University also assured NANS that all student records, documents, and data stored on the KOFA platform will be safely migrated to the new system without any loss of information or interruption to academic processes. The assurance is intended to address growing student anxiety over the safety and integrity of their personal and academic data, which had been fuelled by widespread rumours on social media.

NANS JCC Edo has therefore urged students to remain calm, disregard misinformation, and continue with their academic activities as the transition progresses. The student body further pledged to maintain close engagement with the University Management to ensure that the welfare and interests of all AAU students remain a top priority throughout the migration process. The management also appealed to students to be patient and cooperate with the university during this period of transition.

AAU Ekpoma, a state-owned university in Edo State, has faced several administrative challenges in recent years, including protests over school fees and admission irregularities. The institution has been working to improve its digital infrastructure and student services as part of broader reforms aimed at enhancing the quality of education and administrative efficiency. The transition to a new student management system is seen as part of this ongoing effort.
