Operatives of the Delta State Police Command, in collaboration with local vigilantes, have arrested two suspected electric cable vandals and recovered stolen cables in a renewed crackdown on the destruction of critical public infrastructure across the state. The suspects, identified as 28-year-old Osakwe Sunday and 34-year-old Ekene Obocha, were arrested on June 25, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m. along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road in the Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.

According to a statement made available to journalists on Saturday, June 27, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Kwale Police Station, acting on credible intelligence that suspected vandals were dismantling and stealing electric cables, swiftly mobilised to the scene. Upon sighting the security team, the suspects attempted to flee but were apprehended during the operation. One of the suspects sustained injuries during the arrest and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, while the other remains in police custody. The vandalised electric cables were recovered and have been taken into police custody as exhibits.

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the police command and the local vigilante group for their prompt response and sustained commitment to combating criminal activities. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, on Saturday, June 27, 2026, the governor described the operation as a major step toward protecting critical public infrastructure across the state. He added that the arrest demonstrated the government's resolve to safeguard public assets and ensure that investments in infrastructure continue to serve the people without disruption.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, warned criminal elements to desist from vandalising critical government infrastructure and other public assets, stressing that the command would continue to identify, arrest, and prosecute offenders. He also appealed to members of the public to sustain their cooperation with the police by volunteering useful information capable of preventing crime and bringing offenders to justice. Governor Oborevwori similarly urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would aid in the fight against crime.

The successful operation highlights the importance of intelligence-led policing and community collaboration in tackling the growing menace of infrastructure vandalism, which has become a significant challenge across Nigeria. The suspects are expected to face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations, as the police reaffirm their commitment to protecting lives, property, and critical government assets throughout the state.
