A 43-year-old non-teaching staff member of a public primary school in Ilorin, Kwara State, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 14-year-old pupil, an incident that has sent shockwaves through the community and reignited concerns over child safety in educational institutions. The suspect, identified as Amuda Olubukola, was taken into custody on Thursday, June 25, 2026, following a formal complaint lodged with the NSCDC Gender Unit by the victim's mother, who had grown suspicious after noticing changes in her daughter's physical appearance.
The NSCDC, in a statement released on Friday, June 26, 2026, by its spokesperson, Ayoola Micheal, disclosed that the suspect had carried out the assaults repeatedly inside his office on the school premises. According to the Command, the abuse only came to light after the young girl became pregnant, prompting her mother to report the matter to authorities. During the course of the investigation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime, attributing his actions to "the work of the devil." The Command further alleged that Olubukola had lured the victim with promises of marriage and had physically restrained her from raising an alarm during the repeated assaults by covering her mouth.
The arrest followed a thorough investigation by the NSCDC's Gender Unit, which swung into action immediately after receiving the complaint. "The Gender Unit launched an investigation immediately after receiving the formal complaint and uncovered the disturbing details of the abuse," Micheal stated. The victim has since been examined by medical professionals and is receiving necessary care, while the suspect remains in custody as investigations progress.
Kwara NSCDC Commandant, Abbas Mohammed, expressed outrage over the alleged act, describing it as a gross betrayal of trust and a violation of the safety that children should enjoy within the school environment. "Any individual who preys on the innocence of a girl, particularly within the school environment, has committed a grave offence against society and will be made to face the full weight of the law," Mohammed said. He assured the public that the Command remained committed to securing justice and revealed that the investigation was nearing completion. "The suspect will be arraigned in court as soon as the necessary legal processes are concluded," he added.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from child rights advocates, parents, and members of the public, many of whom have called for stricter measures to protect children from sexual abuse in schools. The NSCDC has urged parents, guardians, and school authorities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour or cases of abuse to the appropriate authorities without delay. The case highlights the persistent vulnerability of children in educational settings and underscores the urgent need for stronger safeguards and accountability mechanisms to prevent such abuses.
As of the time of this report, the Kwara State Government had yet to issue an official statement on the matter. The NSCDC has assured the public that the suspect will face prosecution to serve as a deterrent to others who may contemplate similar acts. The victim and her family are receiving support from authorities as they navigate the aftermath of the ordeal.
