The Nigeria Customs Service has officially distanced itself from a viral social media post circulating online, warning the public to disregard the content which it described as fake and not originating from the Service.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, July 2, 2026, the NCS said it had become aware of a fraudulent message currently trending on social media platforms. The Service described the claims contained in the message as false and urged members of the public to rely only on updates published through its official communication channels.
The NCS advised Nigerians to follow its verified platforms for accurate and factual information. These include its official Facebook page, Instagram, TikTok, Threads, X (formerly Twitter) account, and its website. The Service did not specify the exact nature of the fake content, but such alerts typically involve fraudulent recruitment announcements, fake job offers, or unauthorized requests for payments.
The warning comes amid a surge in online scams targeting job seekers and unsuspecting members of the public. The NCS has repeatedly cautioned Nigerians against falling for fraudulent schemes that promise employment or other benefits in exchange for money. The Service assured the public that all its official announcements are made through its verified channels and that any information not originating from those platforms should be treated as suspect.
The NCS reiterated its commitment to transparency and urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against misinformation and fraudulent activities.
