DAMATURU, Nigeria — July 4, 2026 — Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested two suspected Boko Haram logistics suppliers during a checkpoint operation in Yobe State, in what military authorities described as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the terrorist group's supply network in Nigeria's North-East.

The suspects, Lawali Alhaji Yunusa and Musa Ibrahim Baguwa, were arrested during a military checkpoint operation conducted on Friday, July 3, 2026, along a route monitored by security forces as part of intensified counter-insurgency operations across the region.

Military sources said troops intercepted the suspects after identifying items believed to be intended for terrorist logistics. Recovered during the operation were 750 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), two motorcycles, one mobile phone and ₦49,650 in cash.

The military said the recovered petrol and motorcycles are suspected to have been intended to support Boko Haram's operational activities, noting that the insurgent group has frequently relied on clandestine supply networks to obtain fuel, food, transport and other essential materials.

The suspects are currently in military custody while investigations continue to determine the extent of their alleged involvement in supplying logistics to Boko Haram and to identify other members of the suspected network.

The Nigerian military has intensified intelligence-driven operations across the North-East in recent months, targeting individuals and groups accused of providing logistical, financial and operational support to Boko Haram and its rival faction, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Security agencies say dismantling these supply chains remains critical to weakening the operational capabilities of terrorist groups in the region.

Military authorities have reiterated that counter-insurgency operations will continue across the North-East as efforts are sustained to arrest suspected collaborators, cut off terrorist logistics and enhance security in communities affected by insurgency.

The suspects remain presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of competent jurisdiction.
