A joint security operation involving operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) and the Iru Ekun Security Network has rescued a 43-year-old woman, Mrs. Adijat Kuburat, and her two-year-old son, Abdul Malik Hamzat, from a kidnappers' hideout deep inside a forest in Bode Sadu, Kwara State, following a dramatic three-day manhunt and a fierce gun battle.

The rescue, which culminated on Saturday, July 4, 2026, was triggered by credible intelligence that led the security team to the kidnappers' hideout. According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, the operation was carried out by the FID-IRT in collaboration with local security support groups. The team was also supported by the Iru Ekun Security Network, founded by Yoruba Nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

Igboho, who personally participated in the mission, said the rescue took about three days of relentless tracking and intelligence gathering. "Myself and my team members with ASP Amos Ajegoke, including policemen, have been in the forest for days tracking the movement of the hoodlums to ascertain the location," Igboho said. "But on July 2, we discovered that they were at Bode Sadu before Jebba. We moved there and were there till Friday night."

The breakthrough came when the security team lured the kidnappers into a ransom collection trap. "Around 12:00 a.m. they came to collect ransom as we both agreed. But we attacked them in the forest and there was an exchange of gunshots," Igboho recounted. The kidnappers, upon sighting the operatives, opened fire but were overpowered and forced to flee deeper into the forest, many of them with gunshot wounds. The operatives then combed the area and heard cries for help. "We subsequently gave them a hot chase and combed the forest. They fled. Later, we found out that they have abandoned Adijat Kubura and Abdulmalik. We heard their voices shouting for help and were able to locate where the noises were coming from and rescued them," Igboho said.

The victims, who were rescued unharmed, were immediately taken to Igboho General Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention and care. Igboho praised the support of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, who was in constant communication with the Commissioners of Police in Kwara and Niger States, which facilitated the success of the operation. "It is crucial to say this operation and its success were made possible with the valuable support of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, who was communicating with the Commissioner of Police in Kwara and Niger States, thus making the strenuous arduous task fruitful after days and nights inside forests," Igboho said.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the operatives for their gallantry and professionalism during the operation. He reiterated the Force's commitment to sustaining intelligence-led policing in the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country. Security authorities have confirmed that efforts are being intensified to track down the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network behind the abduction.
