The quiet of the night in Kwaren Gamba, a community in Kurawa Ward of Sabon Birni Local Government Area, was shattered by the roar of motorcycle engines and the crack of gunfire as bandits launched a brazen attack that has left families in anguish and once again exposed the fragility of security in the eastern axis of Sokoto State.

The assailants, who stormed the village under the cover of darkness on Saturday, July 4, 2026, operated with impunity for hours, moving from house to house, forcing terrified residents out of their homes and marching them into the bush. According to community sources, an unspecified number of residents were abducted, while the attackers also rustled a large number of livestock, a vital source of livelihood for many families in the agrarian community.

In a particularly brazen act, the bandits targeted the shop of Shuaibu Dan Inna, a local businessman, carting away valuable goods before setting the structure ablaze. The fire gutted the shop, reducing months of investment and inventory to ashes. The shop was completely razed, and the businessman was left with nothing but the memory of his livelihood going up in flames.

Remarkably, no fatalities or injuries were recorded in the attack, a detail that has done little to ease the palpable fear that now grips the community. However, the psychological toll of the assault is immense, as families now grapple with the trauma of the raid and the uncertainty of whether their loved ones will ever return from the forest where the bandits have taken them.

The attack on Kwaren Gamba is not an isolated event. The community, along with neighbouring villages in Sabon Birni LGA, has endured repeated assaults by armed groups, with bandits often operating with impunity, killing, abducting, and rustling livestock. The latest incident is yet another grim reminder of the persistent insecurity affecting communities across the eastern Sokoto axis, where residents have repeatedly called on the government to take decisive action.

As the people of Kwaren Gamba await news of their abducted loved ones and struggle to rebuild their shattered lives, the question on everyone's lips remains: how many more families must wake up to this nightmare before lasting security reaches our communities? The answer, for now, remains painfully elusive.
