The General Overseer of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William F. Kumuyi, has called on Nigeria's leaders to seek divine guidance as a path to lasting peace, declaring that human efforts alone are insufficient to solve the nation's deep-rooted problems and that only hope, trust, and faith in God can bring about lasting solutions. Kumuyi made the remarks on Monday, 6 July 2026, while addressing journalists after a courtesy visit to Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, at the Government House in Makurdi. The visit came ahead of the church's week-long global crusade planned for Buruku and Logo local government areas of the state.
During the visit, Pastor Kumuyi praised the Benue State government for its efforts in infrastructure development and education, but also acknowledged the security challenges still facing parts of the state, particularly the persistent herder-farmer conflicts that have displaced thousands and claimed numerous lives. He then offered words of encouragement to Nigeria's leaders, urging them to look beyond human capabilities and place their trust in divine intervention. "When bad things happen, there are things that are responsible and people that might be responsible, but the people are not the solution. God is our problem solver. And when we hope in God and trust in God, having faith in God, our problems will be solved," Kumuyi said.
The Deeper Life leader's remarks come amid a troubling security landscape across Nigeria, with banditry, kidnapping, and communal violence continuing to claim lives and displace communities. Benue State, in particular, has been one of the hardest-hit states by the farmer-herder crisis, with repeated attacks on farming communities leading to mass displacement and humanitarian suffering. Just days before Kumuyi's visit, bandits killed at least nine farmers and abducted several others in a fresh attack in Kaduna State. The visit also comes months after Governor Alia, a Catholic priest, had in February declared a state of emergency on food security and insecurity in the state, warning that no meaningful progress could be made without addressing the security challenges plaguing the agricultural sector.
Governor Alia, who was represented by his deputy, Sam Ode, received Pastor Kumuyi and his wife alongside other church leaders, government officials, and dignitaries who gathered at the old banquet hall of the Government House. The governor's delegation expressed appreciation for the visit and the church's commitment to spiritual revival in the state. Kumuyi's visit also set the stage for the much-anticipated crusade in Buruku and Logo local government areas, where the church plans to hold a week-long global crusade aimed at spiritual renewal and community transformation.
The Deeper Life leader's message of divine intervention resonated with many Nigerians who have grown weary of the seemingly intractable security challenges facing the nation. While security agencies continue to battle insurgents, bandits, and other criminal elements, Kumuyi's emphasis on divine guidance has struck a chord with a population that has often looked to faith for solace in times of crisis. The visit also highlighted the growing trend of religious leaders engaging with state governments on security and development issues, reflecting the important role faith-based organisations play in shaping public discourse and promoting peace.
As Nigeria confronts the complex challenges of insecurity, poverty, and underdevelopment, Kumuyi's words serve as a reminder that while human efforts are essential, lasting solutions may also require spiritual guidance and collective faith. The week-long crusade in Buruku and Logo is expected to draw thousands of worshippers from across the state and beyond, offering a moment of spiritual reflection and hope for communities that have endured years of violence and uncertainty. For the people of Benue State and Nigeria at large, Kumuyi's message offers a glimmer of hope: that even in the darkest of times, trust in God can light the way forward.
