In a memo that was released yesterday, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has successfully concluded his interactive Town Hall Meetings across the state's Area Commands, completing the engagement with stakeholders from the Agbani and Enugu Metropolis Area Commands and reaffirming the Command's unwavering commitment to community-driven security. The meetings, held separately at the Nkanu West Local Government Council Secretariat Hall in Agbani and the Enugu Sports Club in Enugu, provided a platform for the Commissioner to receive feedback and respond to concerns, questions, and observations on the Command's operational, investigative, and administrative activities.

Addressing the gathering, CP Giwa noted that the engagements had further strengthened community policing, enhanced public trust, and reinforced the partnership between the Police and the public. He reassured participants of the Command's determination to sustain its crime-fighting strategies and preserve the peace, security, and public order currently enjoyed across the Area Commands and the State. The meetings, which were attended by a broad cross-section of stakeholders, underscored the Command's commitment to ensuring that security remains a collective responsibility.

In Agbani, the Town Hall Meeting was attended by the Executive Chairmen of Aninri, Hon. Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjokwu, and Enugu North, Dr Ibenaku Onoh, while the Deputy Chairman represented the Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area. Also present were Hon. Monday Diamond Ani, the GM/CEO of the State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA); the Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Igwe Dr Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu; the Council's Public Relations Officer, HRM Igwe Dr Emmanuel Ugwu; the Sarki Hausawa of Enugu State, HRH Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf Sambo; and the State Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Rev Bright Alaribe. Opinion leaders and other critical security stakeholders were also in attendance.

Participants, including Local Government Chairmen, traditional and religious leaders, Presidents-General of communities, transport union representatives, hoteliers, traders, women, youth and student leaders, members of the PCRC, personnel of sister security agencies, the Enugu State Forest Guards, and the Neighbourhood Watch Group, commended the Command's efforts in maintaining security across Enugu State. They appreciated the Commissioner of Police for creating a platform for direct engagement with citizens and urged him to sustain the initiative, which they described as a welcome development that has bridged the gap between the police and the communities they serve.

The Enugu Metropolis Town Hall Meeting, held at the Enugu Sports Club, similarly drew a diverse array of stakeholders from the metropolitan area, including representatives of market associations, transport unions, hoteliers, youth and student leaders, and community development associations. The discussions at both meetings focused on strengthening trust and cooperation between the police and the public, with participants sharing valuable insights, raising concerns, and making recommendations aimed at improving security delivery across the State. The Commissioner of Police listened attentively to the concerns raised and provided clarifications on the Command's strategies and policies.

The conclusion of the Town Hall Meetings in Agbani and Enugu Metropolis marks the end of a statewide stakeholder engagement exercise that had earlier seen CP Giwa hold similar meetings with stakeholders in the Nsukka, Oji-River, and Udenu Area Commands. The initiative, which was designed to foster a collaborative approach to security, has been hailed as a significant step towards enhancing public trust and strengthening the partnership between the police and the communities they serve.

The Commissioner of Police reiterated the Command's commitment to sustaining the momentum of the engagements, noting that regular dialogue with stakeholders is essential to understanding community concerns and developing effective responses to emerging security threats. He urged the public to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information that can assist in preventing crime and apprehending offenders.

The Enugu State Police Command has been at the forefront of efforts to maintain peace and security across the State, with CP Giwa's town hall meetings representing a strategic initiative to deepen community engagement and enhance trust in the police. The Command has also recorded significant successes in crime prevention and detection, including the recent rescue of two kidnapped victims and the arrest of a kidnapping syndicate. As the Command continues to implement its community-driven security strategies, the successful conclusion of the Town Hall Meetings serves as a testament to the commitment of the leadership to ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Enugu State.
