The Delta State Police Command has arraigned a 63-year-old proprietor of a popular brothel in Asaba, Prince Chizoba Ojokwu, along with 29 other suspects, following an intelligence-led raid on criminal hideouts across the state. The operation, which took place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations and was based on credible intelligence generated by the State Intelligence Department (SID). The coordinated raid targeted identified black spots, brothels, and suspected illicit drug dens across the Asaba metropolis and adjoining communities as part of the command’s sustained efforts to combat crime and improve public safety.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, a total of 202 suspects were arrested during the large-scale operation. Following preliminary investigations, 172 of those arrested were screened and released unconditionally after investigators found no sufficient evidence linking them to any criminal offence. However, 30 suspects, including the brothel owner, were arraigned on various charges. Ojokwu, the owner of Prince Tarvan 50 Brothel, was charged before the Asaba Magisterial District Court for allegedly permitting his premises to be used as a brothel and procuring women and girls for prostitution. These offences are punishable under Sections 224 and 223, respectively, of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C21, Volume I, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.
The remaining 29 suspects were arraigned on charges of conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace and possession of illicit drugs. The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command's commitment to ensuring that every lawful arrest is backed by diligent investigation and prosecution wherever a prima facie case exists. He warned operators of criminal hideouts, brothels, and other unlawful establishments across Delta State to desist from activities capable of undermining public peace, stressing that the police would continue to intensify intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and bringing offenders to justice.
The raid and subsequent arraignment of the 30 suspects underscore the Delta State Police Command's determination to rid the state of criminal elements and restore public confidence in the safety of communities. The operation also highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing, which relies on credible information to target specific criminal hotspots. The police have urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, assuring them that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality. As the command intensifies its efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state, the message is clear: criminal activities will not be tolerated, and those who engage in them will face the full weight of the law.
