Barcelona have completed the signing of Nigerian winger Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund in a deal reportedly worth €40 million. The 24-year-old joins the Spanish giants after agreeing to a long-term contract, following reports that he had informed Dortmund of his desire to leave after contract extension talks broke down.
With the move, Adeyemi becomes the first Nigerian to represent Barcelona's senior team, marking a historic milestone for Nigerian football. Born in Munich to a Nigerian father and a Romanian mother, the 24-year-old German international brings blistering pace, directness, and versatility to Hansi Flick's attack.
Barcelona's initial offer was worth €20 million, but Dortmund held out for €40 million. The two clubs eventually reached an agreement, with the final structure of the transfer likely to include performance-related bonuses.
Adeyemi's arrival gives Barcelona another dynamic attacking option. The club had already signed England forward Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a €70 million deal earlier in the transfer window.
The transfer is expected to be finalised ahead of Barcelona's pre-season training camp in England, which begins on July 27.
